5 Reasons You Can Go Without A VA
VA - some people might be thinking, what the heck is a VA? Well it is a virtual assistant. A secretary for your business that does tedious tasks for your business that you can't stand doing, but you know needs to get done.
I was definitely drinking the kool-aid last year. I was listening to the podcasts and reading the blogs and felt like I needed a VA for my makeup business. I hit my revenue goal and in May I hired my VA. I loved working with her! I actually really like her. She is a cool, sweet person, and the idea that both of our businesses were coming up and growing really excited me. But after the third month I realized a few things. 1. I didn't have enough growth in my business to retain her for additional hours. 2. She helped me get so efficient I was able to replicate many of the activities she was doing with ease. And 3. I was running my business from a place of WANT and not a NEED.
So, I did not renew our business relationship after 4 months. Honestly, my makeup business is cyclical. I am busy in the spring and summer and rather slow in the winter and fall. We decided that she will be retained during the busy wedding seasons to maximize her skills and my expenses.
So here are 5 things to consider to see if you can go without a VA.
Your business is not organized enough to hand it over to someone. It needs to be automated as much as possible, so someone else can slide right in and fill those shoes. And those automation processes need to be written down step by step.
You hold yourself accountable. Some need deadlines from others to get stuff done. If you are a self starter and a self finisher, you could probably get by without a VA.
You actually enjoy all of the tedious tasks of running a wedding business - social media posts, responding to inquiries, writing emails and blogs.
Your time management skills are awesome. You are able to juggle your work, life, and side business with ease, and you do well doing it all alone.
You can't afford one. If you are not breaking even in your business, it is time to re-evaluate things. You aren't running a business you are running a hobby and therefore don't need an assistant for a hobby, right?
These reasons seem kinda out there, right? Especially #3 and #4. We all need help at times in our business - even if it is just seasonal. If you are at a point where you said "Kari I want a VA but I am not ready for one yet" that is okay. Check out my latest 2 blogs. The first is about making achievable goals and the second is about making plans for those goals. Make that a goal for 2019 my friend and watch the progress unfold!
