3 Steps To a Productive Week
So much to do! So little time! If you are a side hustling creative unfortunately you know exactly how this feels. I have a 3-step process to help you get a handle on your weekly schedule so you can feel more productive and in control.
Write out all of the tasks you want to get done for the week. It is nice to do this on Sunday evening. Everything for your home, personal, pets, spouses, errands, etc. Do not assign them a day, just write them all down. These are things that you WANT to get done this week, but the day they get done is not as important. This is the key step because if you have 2 evening appointments after work, that you don’t usually have, like getting taxes done and picking up a package from the UPS store, that will have a direct impact on the remaining free time for the week.
Jot down what you would like to do on certain days. For me, this looks like exercising on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday; doing daily bible reading, going to my house of worship on Thursdays and Sundays. These are your non-negotiables. These items are pretty much appointments on your calendar. They HAVE to get done on THESE days, no questions asked.
Fill In the Rest
Now that you have filled in your mandatory daily routine items, start sprinkling in your weekly to-do list items on the days where you know you realistically have room. It’s time to be real my friend. Having a hope to get many items done doesn’t make you productive it just makes you feel busy. Having a schedule set up for success so you can get said items done is what makes you productive.
If you have a list of 15 items on your weekly list that you want to get done but you know realistically you only have room for 9 to get done, well assign those 9 tasks and your prioritize tasks - or what I like to call the “A List.” Then mark the last 6 as the “B List.” If you don’t get the B List done that’s OK because realistically they weren’t the priority. Move them to the next week. If you did get them done BONUS! You were over productive this week.
